Institution receives donation of books worth $27m

Edwin Clark University (ECU), Kiagbodo in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta has received donation of books worth 27 million US dollars.

The 22,000 volume of books were donated to the University on Tuesday by a US-based NGO, “Book for Africa”. The university was founded by an Ijaw leader and elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark. Speaking at the unveiling ceremony of the books , the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Timothy Olagbemiro, said the organisation got the donation from authors and publishers, from different countries to some universities in Africa. “I am grateful that ECU is a beneficiary of this laudable gesture. “I am also very grateful to our link partner, Dr Tunji Adesesan of Reinhardt University, Waleska, Georgia who had earlier facilitated the donation of 7,000 volumes of books. 

 “Through his goodwill, he linked us with “Books for Africa.” Olagbemiro thanked the facilitators for their resilience and resourcefulness in getting a donor who paid 12,000 US dollars for the shipment “We are also indebted to the Board Chairman of the project, Mr Atare Agbamu, for his assistance, adding that the donation is the highest any university in Africa has ever received,” he said. Olagbemiro said some of the books will also be donated to Delta University and to members of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, (FIDA), Delta chapter.
