In his speech, he said in Yoruba " I thank God Almighty, the Lord that does everything on earth, I am the one that is happy the most.
What we are doing today is very spiritual and deeper than what we experience. It is true that this is a new beginning in this community, whatever is settled already is settled on earth" he said
"We are experiencing a smooth transition without any influence of politics, I am grateful to God"
The Great Monarch was praise the out gone Acting Vice-chancellor, Prof. Anthony Elujoba for his great works, thanked him for his hardwork.
He admonishes the multitude by saying;
"Everything you are doing in life, once you stop doing, what will people remember you for, there is no single soul God did not give responsibility to"
“OAU was meant to be established in Owo town, Ondo state, but for the understanding between Oba Adesoji and Olowo of Owo, they agreed that it should established in Ile-Ife .”
Buttressing his point he adjured that he’s a student of history even as he linked the ceremony to the historical value of it. He said “Am happy to see history happen today. Today after many years an illustrious son of Ile-ife is handing over to a versatile son of Owo. And everybody here is happy, people are standing happily."

The Chairman Governing Council, Dr Yemi Ogunbiyi also delivered his welcoming speech saying that the election of the Vice Chancellor post have caused a great fear in him. Starting with a mythical story of creation.
He said "In the course of selecting a substantive vice chancellor of this great institution I was under tremendous pressure, and later advised that to choose what is best for this university.
I am confident that the appointment of the Vice Chancellor under a transparent process that is widely accepted will usher in a good beginning of the community"
He appreciated the immediate erstwhile Acting Vice-chancellor, Prof Tony Elujoba, for his perseverance, humility and tolerance
He said "He did his best when it matters the most."
