CampusVilla Correspondence

The pioneers of HOTNIC Inc. on Friday call for pressmen in order to explain the issues behind all matters arising after the award night which was held at Amphitheater. The award night was followed by criticism from different angles and some questions were left unanswered.

The press conference held at SUB ‘TV room’ at 6pm on Friday. In attendance were two among the pioneers of HOTNIC Inc. in person of Caleb Tehila and Adeyi Damilare.

Tehila started by apologizing to students over the website breakdown, he pointed to the cause of the breakdown’ technical breakdown’. Furthermore, he gave the reason why some people were leading during the course of voting and later missed the award, ‘’ 23,658 clicks of votes were made while 11,623 votes were not valid because some voters voted more than once through the use of different applications or browsers’’ and this eligible votes were retracted from the original votes and the result was used to award the winner, Tehila employed students to understand this and bear with them.

He later blamed some unprepared contingencies as to some awards that was scraped on the award night, it was as a result of something that came up at the tail end of their preparation which is ‘change of venue’, he said the change of venue was urgent and they had to use the awards that were available and even though there were some awards which were not available during the presentation of the awards. He later apologised to those that were not presented with their award.

On Mr and Mrs Fresher issue, he said they were judged by the tickets sold and performance on stage and also clarified that the contestants were aware before the event. He said nomination fee was introduced later because of the fact that they didn’t pay gate fee to the event and that will serve as gate fee for those that are to be awarded. “5 awardees only paid for the nomination fee but the awards were given to everyone, so we are justified of that”, he said.

Questions were asked by some students present, Samuel, a part 2 student of department of geography asked about an award that was given to a person not in a category, Tehila made it known that they were cognizant of it and said the award will be withdrawn from the person involved ‘CB’ and be given to the owner ‘Charlie Toxsin’. Also, Damilare gave his opinion that something should be given as compensation to the candidates that contested but lost. Another question was asked by Marshall, from department of law, he asked about any student-body sponsors, and Tehila answered him and said there is no student-body sponsor.

The meeting ended by a question about how well they have been able to fulfil their promises for Mr and Miss Fresher, “the winners can testify to it, we have fulfil some of our promises to them but they are with us for a year, there are many things we have on ground for them for the full year and if we don’t fulfil everything we have promised after a year, then people can start criticizing us” Tehilah said
