The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura -
Namoda, Ahmad Lugga, said only a fraction of
candidates who were offered admission into the
college in the 2016/2017 session took up the offer.
Lugga said this on Saturday during the matriculation
ceremony of new intakes.
He said , “we recorded the sale of over 5,000 forms, but to
our surprise, only 1,307 students turned up for registration
into National and Higher National Diploma programmes.”
“Although the figure is higher than the 1,175 matriculants
we admitted last session, it is still worrisome for us to see
that out of over 5,000, less than 2,000 came for
registration. ”
He said all the 17 National Diploma (ND) and 14 Higher
National Diploma (HND) programmes offered at the
institution had been fully accredited by the National Board
for Technical Education (NBTE).
He added that the Center for Research and
Entrepreneurship Development (CRED) had fully taken off
and would prepare students to acquire additional skills.
Similarly, the rector said the polytechnic would commence
two new HND programmes and eight new ND in the
2017/2018 academic year.
He said the school was still waiting for the commencement of
an eight kilometers road construction pledged by the state
governor last year.
He urged the matriculating students to be of good behavior
warning that anyone person or group caught violating the
school rules would be expelled.
